The profile editor allows you to update:

Basic Information
Name
Your full name displayed across GitScrum:
- Appears on task assignments
- Shown in comments and mentions
- Used in notifications sent to others
Username
Your unique identifier:
- Used in mentions (@username)
- Part of your profile URL
- Must be unique across GitScrum
- Lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens only
Your primary email address:
- Used for login authentication
- Receives notifications
- Must be verified to use
Profile Details
Headline
A brief professional title:
- Maximum 255 characters
- Examples: "Senior Software Engineer" or "Product Designer"
- Displayed below your name on profile
Summary
A longer bio describing you:
- Your background and experience
- Current focus or interests
- How you prefer to collaborate
- What you're working on
Location
Where you're based:
- City, country, or "Remote"
- Helps with timezone coordination
- Optional but recommended for teams
Professional Information
Work Experience
Add your work history:
- Click Add Experience
- Enter company name
- Add your role/title
- Set start and end dates
- Describe your responsibilities
Skills
Tag your expertise:
- Programming languages
- Frameworks and tools
- Methodologies (Agile, Scrum)
- Soft skills
Skills help with task matching and team discovery.
Social Links
Connect your professional presence:
- LinkedIn profile
- GitHub/GitLab account
- Personal website
- Twitter/X handle
Profile Picture
Uploading a Photo
- Click on current avatar
- Select image file (JPG, PNG, GIF)
- Crop to fit square frame
- Save changes
Photo Guidelines
- Minimum 200x200 pixels
- Maximum file size 5MB
- Professional, recognizable image
- Clear, well-lit face shot recommended
Removing Photo
- Click avatar
- Select Remove
- Initials will display instead
Security Settings
Change Password
Access via separate modal:
- Click Change Password on profile page
- Enter current password
- Enter new password (twice)
- Submit to update
Password requirements:
- Minimum 8 characters
- Mix of letters and numbers recommended
- Not matching common passwords
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Enhanced security option:
- Click Enable 2FA in security section
- Scan QR code with authenticator app
- Enter verification code
- Save backup codes securely

Updating Your Title
When you change roles:
- Edit headline field

Your title appears throughout GitScrum wherever your name is displayed, making it an important way to communicate your role to team members.
Adding New Skills
As you learn new technologies:
- Navigate to skills section
- Type skill name
- Select from suggestions or create new
- Skills appear on your profile
Skills help team leads identify expertise when assigning tasks. Keep your skills list current to receive relevant task assignments.
Connecting LinkedIn
For professional networking:
- Click social links section
- Paste LinkedIn profile URL
- Save changes
- LinkedIn icon appears on profile
Connecting professional accounts helps team members learn more about your background and connect with you outside of GitScrum.
Privacy Considerations
Your profile information is visible to:
- All members of workspaces you belong to
- Anyone viewing projects where you're a member
- Anyone with your profile link (if public)
Consider what information you share professionally. GitScrum gives you control over what appears on your profile, so you can choose to share only what's relevant for your work context.

Troubleshooting Profile Issues
Avatar Not Uploading
If your profile photo fails to upload:
- Verify file format (JPG, PNG, GIF supported)
- Check file size (maximum 5MB)
- Try a different browser
- Clear browser cache and retry
- Resize image to under 2000x2000 pixels
Email Change Not Working
To change your primary email:
- Verify new email is not already in use by another account
- Complete email verification before change takes effect
- Check spam folder for verification email
- Contact support if verification email doesn't arrive
Two-Factor Authentication Recovery
If you lose access to your 2FA device:
- Use one of your saved backup codes
- Each backup code works only once
- Contact support with identity verification if no backup codes
- Store backup codes in a secure password manager
Profile Data and Account Management
Exporting Your Data
GitScrum allows you to export your profile and activity data:
- Navigate to Profile Settings
- Click Export Data
- Choose data types to include
- Download generated file
Account Deletion
If you need to delete your GitScrum account:
- Leave all workspaces first
- Navigate to Profile Settings
- Scroll to Danger Zone
- Click Delete Account
- Confirm by entering your password
Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. All your data, including comments and task history, will be removed.
