User Story Voting
Vote on user stories to help your team prioritize the backlog. See which features matter most to the team through collective voting.
Overview
The Voting Board allows team members to vote on user stories, helping identify which stories should be prioritized. This is useful for backlog grooming and understanding team preferences.
Accessing the Voting Board
Navigate to your project and click on the "Voting" tab in the user stories section.
Page Header
The header displays key statistics:
- Total Votes - Total votes cast across all stories
- Voters - Number of unique team members who have voted
- Your Votes - How many stories you have voted on
Sort Options
Use the dropdown to sort stories by:
- Most voted
- Least voted
- Newest
- Oldest
View Toggle
Switch between display modes:
- List View - Table format with story details
- Grid View - Card-based layout
- Analytics View - Charts and insights (Pro feature)
List View
The list view displays stories in a table format:
Columns
- Vote - Click the vote button to vote or unvote
- Title - Story title with link to full details
- Progress - Task completion progress bar
- Priority - Priority level with color indicator
- Epic - Associated epic if any
- Voters - Count of team members who voted
Voting
Click the arrow button in the Vote column:
- Unselected stories show a gray button
- After voting, the button turns purple
- Click again to remove your vote
Stories you have voted on are highlighted with a purple background tint.
Grid View
The grid view displays stories as cards in a responsive grid:
Card Layout
Each card shows:
- Header - Story code and priority badge
- Title - Story title (click to open details)
- Progress - Task completion bar with counts
- Epic - Epic name if assigned
- Footer - Voter avatars and vote button
Rank Badges
Top 3 stories with votes display rank badges:
- Gold badge for #1
- Silver badge for #2
- Bronze badge for #3
Analytics View (Pro)
The analytics view provides insights into voting patterns:
KPI Bar
Five statistics across the top:
- Total Stories - Number of user stories
- Total Votes - Sum of all votes
- Stories with Votes - Count of stories that received at least one vote
- Unique Voters - Number of team members participating
- Participation - Percentage of members who voted
Voting Activity Chart
Line chart showing voting activity over the last 30 days. Helps identify when the team is most active in prioritization.
Priority Distribution Chart
Pie chart showing how votes are distributed across priority levels.
How Voting Works
- Browse Stories - View all user stories in list or grid view
- Read Details - Click a story title to see full description and acceptance criteria
- Cast Vote - Click the vote button to vote for stories you think are important
- Change Mind - Click again to remove your vote
- See Results - Stories with more votes rise to the top when sorted by "Most voted"
Use Cases
Backlog Prioritization
Before sprint planning:
- Have all team members vote on stories
- Sort by most voted
- Discuss top-voted stories first
- Use votes as input for sprint planning
Feature Discovery
Understand what the team considers most valuable:
- Review analytics for voting patterns
- Identify stories with high vote counts
- Consider team preferences when planning roadmap
Stakeholder Input
If clients have access:
- Allow clients to vote on stories
- Understand client priorities
- Balance client votes with technical team input
Pagination
Both list and grid views support pagination:
- Click "Load More" at the bottom to see additional stories
- The button shows remaining story count
Permissions
All project team members can vote on user stories. Viewing analytics requires Pro subscription.
